At the Early Years Education Centre we believe children learn best through play. Our approach to children’s development and learning is based on the Froebelian approach.

This strategy, developed by childhood pioneer Friederich Froebel, emphasises learning through play as a primary way children interact with the world . The approach also considers the physical and mental health of a child to be interconnected, and emphasises the importance of feelings and thinking.

We focus on what children can do rather than what they can’t, making this the foundation of their education. Child-initiated activities are encouraged, and learning is valued in the present - not just as preparation for the future. Our teaching is also informed by the work of the Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget, who did extensive work on child  cognitive development. Jean Piaget pioneered the ‘constructivist’ theory of education that children learn through experiences and social interaction.
