The Strategy Management Office (SMO) has been established to ensure cohesive, consistent, and effective execution of Imperial’s strategic programme ‘Science for Humanity’ (the “programme”). In doing so, the SMO acts as a strategic partner for each initiative within the programme, providing support to ensure delivery of objectives, anticipating future opportunities and challenges and maintaining overall alignment.
Acting as the central hub for the programme, the SMO drives programme-level activities, monitors key performance indicators, and strengthens coordination across the programme.
In addition, the SMO leads and supports the design, scale-up, and delivery of other high-impact strategic projects, which are aligned with Science for Humanity.
The SMO has four overarching objectives which are to:
- Strengthen executive engagement with and sponsorship of Science for Humanity by delivering timely, accurate, and actionable programme-level updates to the University Management Board (UMB) and Council, as appropriate, ensuring informed decision-making, sustained strategic alignment and effective resource management.
- Accelerate the execution and delivery of Science for Humanity by systematically monitoring and tracking programme and initiative level KPIs, initiative engagement and milestone achievements and facilitating sharing best practice.
- Establish and deliver a robust governance and reporting framework that brings together staff of the SMO, professional services teams, and initiative leads, to proactively identify delivery barriers, co-create solutions, and enable timely and informed decision-making at the appropriate organisational levels.
- Provide clear oversight of strategic engagement, communication, and change management by delivering consistent, aligned messaging; enhancing visibility, coordination, and standardisation of engagement and communication plans across all initiatives to foster positive engagement across the Imperial community and with partners, supporters and funders.
