Imperial College London and the University of Sao Paulo are hosting a collaborative research workshop on One Health[1] and invite applications to participate. The objective of the workshop is to convene academics from both institutions with the aim of developing a proposal for seed funding to prepare for a large-scale strategic grant proposal to key funders such as FAPESP and UKRI. The goal is to encourage collaboration amongst interdisciplinary teams in emerging and priority fields. This follows from a successful workshop of the same kind last year on the energy transition and bioeconomy.
Eligibility
- Researchers who have a permanent appointment[2] from any faculty who are working on the theme of One Health
- a ‘whole of systems’ approach to the theme is within the scope of this call and encouraged.
- Up to 10 Imperial participants will be selected
Funding
- Imperial will cover the costs of air travel, local transportation, meals and accommodation for selected Imperial participants (according to guidance on overseas travel rates).
- Both institutions have committed approximately £60,000 to fund 2–3 one-year collaborative projects resulting from the workshop.
Expected activities
- 2-day facilitated workshop with a focus on research proposal development in One Health
- Short research presentations from academic participants
- Informational presentations from regional funding agencies and other key stakeholders
- Networking reception
- Lab visits (half day)
Application requirements
Note: Applicants are expected to participate in the entire workshop with the aim of developing a collaborative proposal to be submitted for funding through the Imperial-USP Strategic Partnership Fund.
Applicants must demonstrate the following:
- A preliminary description of the research challenge that the intended collaboration will address, its significance, and potential impact
- An alignment of their ongoing research and the workshop theme
- Anticipated benefits of the Imperial-USP collaboration to the research
- Potential for long-term collaboration and large-scale research funding

Background
Imperial and USP renewed their strategic partnership in May 2024, building on strong collaborations in energy transition, sustainable agriculture, public health, and biodiversity. This workshop intends to strengthen our partnership in an area identified as a strength for both institutions and a priority for research and innovation in both Brazil and the UK.

It recognizes that the health of humans, domestic and wild animals, plants, and the wider environment (including ecosystems) are closely linked and interdependent.
