Leaders in our field

The 2014 Research Excellence Framework outcome demonstrated the Department’s contribution to world-leading, original, significant and rigorous research with an exemplary approach to impact

The Department’s focus is to deliver our research and education mission in an environment where everyone can thrive:

Research

Translational technology: To innovate, develop and apply new technologies, techniques and computationally intense systems medicine approaches to enhance medical and surgical diagnostics and prognostics, surgical interventions and augment clinical decision-making to improve patient safety across all areas of medical and surgical practice.

Mechanisms of disease and patient complexity: To understand and model mechanisms of disease and patient complexity in relation to personalised healthcare problems, and to elucidate the basis of population disease risks.

Education

To create and deliver top-quality education in innovative learning environments to inspire and unite the next generation of healthcare and health science leaders. Our department undertakes innovative research programmes tailored to developing world-leading academics. Such individuals will provide the healthcare solutions of the future.

Culture and Engagement

We are committed to supporting our staff and student community to achieve our aims in research and education, by actively developing our Athena SWAN profile through our Culture and Engagement Committee. This integrates an enormous diversity of scientific and medical research activities at the interface of the College and the associated Imperial College Healthcare Trust.
