 Overview

The short course in Cancer Informatics will provide a practical grounding in the skills required for the next-generation of great researchers in informatics – a sub-domain of the utmost importance within research. Increasingly, researchers are expected to be able to analyse their own data to expedite research and decrease costs, as well as offering the additional benefit of allowing the wet-lab researchers to gain a better understanding of their own work. This course will offer individuals the education, practical experience, and the confidence to advance their careers and continue making discoveries for the benefit of our society. This short course is a module of the larger MRes Cancer Biology (Cancer Informatics Stream).

Date and period of study

  • Monday, 4 November 2019 - Friday, 22 November 2019
  • Three weeks, full-time
  • Delegates on the Assessed Pathway will submit their assignments on Friday, 19 December 2018

Entry requirements

Academic - Normally, a UK honours degree at 2.1 or equivalent in a bioscience related discipline.
English - IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each element, or equivalent.

Pathways

CPD (Continued Professional Development) Pathway Delegates on this pathway will attend the tutorials and workshops full-time for three weeks, for which they will receive a certificate of attendance.

Assessed Pathway - Delegates on this pathway will attend the tutorials and workshops full-time for three weeks, and will then have an additional week in order to complete and submit an assignment worth 5 ECTS. This will be done off-campus and submitted electronically. Successful delegates will receive an official College transcript stating your results. 

Fee

The fee for this course are dependent on your choice of pathway and your applicant status (internal/external). Members of staff and students from Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust are internal applicants, and all others are external.
