You will be contacted by the PhD on-course administrator as you approach your 36-month mark.

A Progress Review must be completed with your supervisor to ensure you have a realistic plan for submitting your thesis within 48 months of your start date. The outcome of the Progress Review is to determine whether you have completed all experimental and data-gathering work and are ready to transfer to Writing-up.

If you still have experimental work to perform at this stage you cannot move into Writing-up status and will continue to pay full fees.

The writing up period lasts for up to 12 months but will terminate at 48 months from your start date. You will remain registered during this period but will not be charged any tuition fees.

Further details can be read in the Writing Up Procedure (April 2022) [Pdf].
