Learning and development
As part of training for the role, Finance Trainees will become familiar with the College’s accounting system (Imperial College Information System, ICIS) through various training courses. The use of ICIS will be a core element of any placement undertaken as part of the scheme. Support is available within the department to ensure Finance Trainees become a competent user of the system.
During their three years on the scheme, Finance Trainees will be expected to complete their study for either the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) or Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ACA) qualification depending on which stream of the scheme they are on. The College will meet the full cost of relevant training courses, exam fees, etc. (assuming first time passes). A generous study leave package is provided. Salaries will escalate throughout the three years via a combination of annual pay increments and pay increases linked to exam success.
Finance Trainees are encouraged to supplement their day-to-day experiences from the wide range of courses available in the College’s People and Organisational Development (POD) Centre. As well as providing general information about the College, these courses are great opportunities that help equip trainees for more senior roles in the future.
Examples of training courses and resources available in the College's People and Organisational Development Centre include:
- Coaching and mentoring
- Building a Powerful Presence
- Effective Communication Skills
