Your health data
Every time you receive care from the NHS, information about your health and care is recorded. This information, called health and care data, helps the people looking after you understand what you need and provide the right care.
But have you ever wondered what happens to this information after that? There’s a lot we can learn from it. Used responsibly, health and care data can help researchers understand health and disease, improve treatments and services, and find better ways to care for people.
At iCARE, we help make this research possible. We operate the Imperial Secure Data Environment, where approved researchers can securely work with health and care data. We also run our own research programmes, working with NHS, academic partners, patients and members of the public, to investigate important questions about health and care using data-driven approaches.

Your opinion matters
Using health and care data isn't just about researchers and technology. People and communities should have a say too.
It’s your data, so your voice matters.
Patients and communities across North West London help shape how the Imperial SDE works, sharing their experiences and views on how health and care data should be used and protected.
Our community partners can review and shape research projects, contribute to senior discussions and provide ongoing oversight of our work.
Their involvement helps us understand what matters to the people and communities whose data makes research possible.
Get involved
Patients and members of the public have an important role in shaping research and how health data is used. At iCARE, we work with patients and communities to help make research relevant, responsible and focused on the issues that matter to them.
