Undergraduate Prizes

We are committed to celebrating the achievements of our students. Here is a list of our current prizes. We are very grateful to all sponsors for rewarding these achievements.

Eurofins Foundation Prizes

The  department is enormously grateful for a substantial donation from Eurofins Scientific to funds Prizes for Undergraduates.  Eurofins Scientific is a world leader in food, environment, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products testing and in agriscience services. They are global independent market leaders in testing and laboratory services for genomics, discovery pharmacology, forensics, advanced material sciences and for supporting clinical studies.

Eurofins currently funds Prizes across 3 years of degrees and includes:

  • Eurofins Foundation Undergraduate Individual Prizes – 4 x £500 each for individual students. One to be awarded to a student on each of the following courses: Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Ecology and Environmental Biology, and Microbiology.
  • Eurofins Foundation Undergraduate Group Prizes – 4 x £1000 each for student groups who have performed exceptionally performance in a team-based academic activity usually in Year 1 or 2 of our degrees.
  • Hardship funds

These Prizes are supported by many generous donations, and reward excellence in  final degree performance amongst Life Sciences graduating class. We are very grateful to all sponsors for rewarding the achievements of our students.

C Ewart Stickings Memorial Prizes  For annual award for excellence in Biochemistry/Biotechnology.
Forbes Memorial Medal For annual award to a student displaying excellence in the final examinations of the Biology degrees.
 Gabriel Ferez Prize For annual award in memory of Gabriel Ferez to an undergraduate student for the most outstanding experimental project in Biochemistry or Biotechnology.
 Governors' BSc Prize in Biochemistry For annual award to the BSc student of the greatest merit in the final year of undergraduate Biochemistry courses.
 Governors' Prize in Biology For annual award to the student of greatest merit in the final undergraduate year of the Biology degrees.
 Howarth Prize For annual award to an undergraduate student of the Biology degrees on the basis of performance at the third or final year and other evidence of academic excellence in the field of Plant Sciences. 
 Ian Clark Memorial Prize Awarded to a final year student of the Biology degrees for excellence in Microbiology.
 James Prize of the New Phytologist Trust For annual award to a final year undergraduate student of the Biology degrees for excellence in the Plant Sciences based on performance in the examinations, project and practical work.
 June Mahon Memorial Prize For annual award to a third year student of the Biology degrees for excellence in the study of infection and immunity, especially including parasitology.
 Laurent Bonomo Prize For annual award in memory of Laurent Bonomo to a final year undergraduate in Biochemistry or Biotechnology for outstanding achievement in the area of structural biology.
 Murray Prize in Physiology For annual award to a final year undergraduate student of the Biology degrees for excellence in Physiology.
 Usmani Prize in Biotechnology For annual award to the final year undergraduate student for excellence in Biotechnology.
Lance Ware Mensa Award For annual award for academic excellence to a student of Mathematics, Biochemistry/Biotechnology or Medicine.
