What we do
The Resilience function is responsible for the two capabilities of Business Continuity Management and Incident Management both of which provide a framework of organisational resilience. The function links with Risk Management in its alignment of key features and its over-riding purpose, to protect Imperial’s ability to deliver its strategic mission.

Business Continuity Management
Business Continuity Management ensures that a Team or Service can continue to deliver its identified Prioritised Activities, Services or Products within identified timelines, to identified levels, in the event of a disruption.
Incident Management
Incident Management is concerned with the response to specific events or disruptions, aiming to resolve incidents quickly and restore normal operations at Imperial. The University Emergency Plan provides the response management structure to which all incident response plans, and Business Continuity Plans, should be aligned.
Organisational Resilience can be defined as, “the capability of an organisation to anticipate, detect, mitigate, prevent and, where necessary, withstand and recover from a challenge or disruption”. It is not the remit of one Team or Service, but the whole organisation. There are certain functions within any organisation that can help develop its resilience framework.
These include the Risk and Resilience functions as well as those looking at Security (Information Security / Cyber, personal or protective) health and safety, Data Protection, Insurance or Occupational Health etc. Together, they provide a framework that, when followed, can provide a level of protection and resilience to Imperial which will allow it better to achieve its strategic Mission.
