All students are required to attend the timetabled departmental safety induction relating to the premises and other issues during the first week of term as per your start of session timetable previously issued to you.

The Safety Pack gives details of emergency procedures, first aid provision, experimental work procedures and arrangements for working late in the department during the first week of term. This safety pack and further information on departmental safety can be obtained from the Aeronautics health and safety page.

It is essential that you study the safety pack carefully.

As part of the Department’s Safety Policy it is a requirement that all students undertaking workshop activities (all first and second years) should wear suitable protective clothing.

The minimum requirement is a boiler suit and first years have been timetabled for a boiler suit fitting in the first week of term. Cleaning is essential to good working practices and this is the responsibility of the individual. Whilst we do not enforce the use of safety shoes in the workshop students are encouraged to wear them.

Students not wearing safety shoes should be aware that open toed sandals are not acceptable and those students should make sure that they have a standard leather type shoe to wear. Those students turning up without the appropriate protective clothing will be denied access to the workshop.
