Job summary

Imperial College Business School (Department of Economics and Public Policy) and the Jameel Institute have received generous funding to forge the world’s first initiative on integrated epidemiological-economic modelling of pandemic preparedness -the Jameel Institute-Kenneth C. Griffin Initiative for the Economics of Pandemic Preparedness (EPPI). The initiative will use pioneering integrated economic-epidemiological modelling to provide critical data and analysis to inform public health decisions related to pandemic preparedness around the world.

The new initiative brings together economists, epidemiologists, econometricians and data modellers from across Imperial, together with academics from the Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science at the  London School of Economics, Umeå University in Sweden,  the World Health Organisation and Singapore’s Programme For Research In Epidemic Preparedness And Response (PREPARE), National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID).

 

 

Duties and responsibilities

We wish to appoint a post-doc (Research Associate) to work on understanding the drivers of economic and health behaviours during pandemics, integrating behavioural insights into economic-epidemiological modelling and design behavioural interventions that drive socially desirable behaviours (e.g. vaccination, compliance to isolation measures).

Essential requirements


  • PhD in either behavioural and experimental economics, health economics, or related field of quantitative economics. Candidates with a PhD near to completion will also be considered

  • Conceptual/theoretical knowledge in behavioural and experimental economics to identify and develop behavioural change interventions. Prior experience in applications to health behaviours is desirable but not essential.

  • Experience in experimental research design, implementation and evaluation of experiments in the field, lab, and online.

  • Proven ability, skill and knowledge in advanced economic modelling and econometrics, and one or several programming languages

  • Prior experience in or willingness to acquire skills in mathematical modelling of infectious disease transmission to a level that will enable joint collaboration with theoretical economists and epidemiological modellers

  • Ability to design experiments that can be of use to derive parameters for economic or epidemiological model counterfactuals

  • Initiative and independence in research conceptualization and implementation

  • Willingness and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
