Job summary

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work with PI Roberts to develop datasets and theory to understand how deep-Earth processes (e.g. mantle convection) are expressed at Earth’s surface. We will combine large inventories of geological, geomorphological and geophysical observations with computational and theoretical approaches. Applications are particularly sought from candidates with experience acquiring and working with large datasets and developing their own code. The role will involve working with colleagues in other institutions as part of the ‘Mantle Circulation Constrained (MC2): A multidisciplinary 4D Earth framework for understanding mantle upwellings’ project.

Duties and responsibilities

We expect to write up this work for publication and present at international conferences. You will also be expected to present results to our colleagues as part of the MC2 project. It is expected that you will want to work with members of our research team at Imperial and support PhD and undergraduate students. You will be given support to develop your own research themes.

Essential requirements

At Research Assistant Level: Near completion of a PhD in geophysics or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience.

At Research Associate Level: You will have completed a PhD in geophysics or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience.

In addition, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You should have a clear track record of multidisciplinary research and have experience developing and applying forward, inverse and spectral methods.
  • You should also be able to show evidence that they can perform world-class research to completion (e.g. having published papers).

Further information

This is a fixed term position for up to two years.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant salary range £35,477 - £38,566 per annum.
