Job summary
The post is funded by ATI Project RACHEL. You will have the opportunity of working within one of the world leading research groups on structural integrity and health monitoring SI&HM. The research will be part of an ATI project lead by Rolls-Royce Plc with consortium of partners and suppliers from the UK aerospace industry to work towards Robustly Achievable Combustion of Hydrogen Engine Layout. The Imperial College group will work primarily on the structural health monitoring (SHM) and contribute towards the digital twining applications.
Duties and responsibilities
You will develop SHM technologies (based on combination of electronic sensors, fibre optic sensors and piezoelectric sensors) and methodologies for strain sensing, load monitoring, structural diagnosis and prognosis for composite structures. You will work in an active group working on structural integrity and health monitoring and will combine data-driven methods with advanced computational models to develop a digital twin concept for composite structures for in-service environment. You will work with other collaborators within the project and engage in meetings and presentations within the project and beyond.
Essential requirements
Those appointed at Research Associate level
Hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Engineering (Aeronautics, Mechanical, Electrical) or a closely related discipline.
Those appointed at Research Assistant level
A first / masters degree (or equivalent) in in Aeronautics, Mechanical or Electrical engineering or a closely related discipline

This is a full time, fixed term position for 24 months, you will be based at South Kensington Campus.
Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £38,194 - £41,388 per annum.

The College is currently trialling a Work Location Framework until early 2023. Hybrid working may be considered for this role and the role holder may be expected to work 60% or more of their time onsite, with 40% the minimum time spent onsite.
