Job summary

We are seeking a postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Theoretical Physics Group of the Department of Physics at Imperial College London. The research will be led by Dr. Yasaman K. Yazdi on Everpresent Lambda, a fluctuating dark energy model in the causal set theory approach to quantum gravity. The position is funded by a Leverhulme Trust Grant.

 

Duties and responsibilities

You will contribute to independent and original research and submit publications to refereed journals. This project will involve interdisciplinary research. Depending on the expertise of the successful candidate, the research will involve either more theoretical or more computational aspects. Please highlight your relevant experience in the research statement.

 

Essential requirements

Research Associate: Hold a PhD in Physics or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience.

Research Assistant: Near completion of a PhD in Physics or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience.

In addition, you must also be able to demonstrate a strong background in at least two of the following areas:

  • The causal set theory approach to quantum gravity
  • Computational physics, e.g. the ability to work with high performance causal set and/or cosmology packages
  • Constraining models of dark energy and modified gravity using cosmological observations
  • General relativity, e.g analytic calculations involving curvature

You must also demonstrate:

  • Evidence of outstanding promise in research, demonstrated by an excellent publication record, commensurate with your career stage
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgement in carrying out research tasks
  • Ability to develop and apply new concepts
  • Creative approach to problem-solving

Further information

This is a full time,  fixed term position available for 24 months

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £36,045 - £39,183 per annum.
