Applications are invited from outstanding individuals for a Reader/Chair in Partial Differential Equations and Analysis within the Department of Mathematics. The Department conducts research of the highest quality and has strengths in several interconnected areas of Partial Differential Equations including Stochastic Analysis, Geometry, Applied and Numerical Analysis, Dynamical Systems, Fluid Dynamics, and Mathematical Physics.
You will work in the area of partial differential equations and analysis, interpreted in the broadest sense and including stochastic partial differential equations. You will contribute to the academic mission of Imperial College London to deliver world class scholarship, education and research.
Duties and responsibilities
You will be engaged with research, education, and administrative duties in alignment with the department’s strategy, goals and vision. Among your research duties, you will direct a research programme at the highest scientifically rigorous levels, supervise, train and mentor research staff and students, obtain funds and research grants and encourage and guide junior research staff to do the same, and establish links with industry. You will teach and examine courses at all levels, teach modules in partial differential equations and analysis at all levels, supervise PhD, MSc and MSci theses. You will also undertake appropriate administrative tasks in support of the department’s teaching and research activities and attend relevant academic or management committees.

- PhD in partial differential equations, analysis, stochastic partial differential equations or a related field
- An international reputation (commensurate with career stage) and expertise in the field of partial differential equations, analysis and/or stochastic PDEs
- A significant or sustained track record (commensurate with career stage) in attracting high levels of research funding
- Extensive experience in leading the design of research programmes
- An excellent record of research, evidenced by a portfolio of research publications, confirming national/ international standing (commensurate with career stage)
- Experience of training Undergraduate and Postgraduate students
- Experience of supervision of higher degrees (PhD)
- Evidence of management and administration experience
- Ability to communicate well, conveying ideas and concepts clearly and effectively
Starting salary: From £81,791 per annum for Chair; From £71,448 per annum for Reader
