Based in our Faculty of Engineering, you will be working with influencing world-leading academics to commercialise new technologies (including software) and/or form startup companies, assessing and evaluating inventions, learning how to develop new commercial strategies for transferring technologies to industry and supporting negotiations of the appropriate licensing contracts, in conjunction with legal experts.

Duties and responsibilities
As a service provider to the Faculty of Engineering supporting academics in their interactions with industry and commercialisation activities, you will have significant involvement towards managing the Faculty’s IP portfolio, prospecting, shaping, and developing commercialisation opportunities in the home Faculty departments as well as cross-College multi-disciplinary opportunities.
Activities will include:
- Promoting College’s technologies and
- Assessing research discoveries, analysis and evaluation, and advancement of technologies through to market adoption via collaboration with industry, access to translational funds, licensing, or spinout.
- Contributing to shaping and negotiating appropriate commercialisation agreements, in conjunction with our Commercialisation In-House Lawyer
- Contributing towards securing commercialisation income.
We are looking for applicants with passion for understanding the industry-academia collaborations and commercialisation. To be successful in this role you will have a background in physics, chemistry, computer sciences or electrical and electronic engineering, preferably evidenced by a PhD. An understanding of the academic environment, and in particular technology commercialisation, preferably gained through previous experience of working within HEI or industry is highly desirable.
Strong delivery focus, excellent communication and administration skills coupled with an understanding of the academic environment are also essential.
