Module information for the next academic year is available below. Current academic year information is also available.
Environmental and Applied Fluid Dynamics
Module aims
To explore a number of environmental and applied topics in fluid dynamics and deepen the understanding of the physical processes and governing equations over a range of industrially and environmentally relevant applications. The course will build on principles covered in previous thermofluids courses, such as fluid mechanics, turbulence and heat transfer.
ECTS = 5
Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students will be able to:
1. Apply the principles of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics to a range of engineering and environmental problems.
2. Create mathematical models of a number of key physical processes in environmental and engineering fluid mechanics.
3. Derive appropriate solutions to mathematical models and evaluate their implications for environmental engineering.
4. Appreciate the key research challenges in the analysis of important physical processes in environmental and engineering fluid mechanics.
Module syllabus
Atmospheric and Aerosol Dynamics
Atomisation and Sprays
Aeroacoustics
Pre-requisites
ME3 Fluid Mechanics
Teaching methods
Students will be introduced to the main topics through lectures, supported by technology such as Panopto and Blackboard. Tutorials sessions will provide an opportunity for interaction with teaching staff and discussion of specific problems.
