What course do you teach on and what is your role?

MRes in Medical Robotics and Image Guided Intervention – Module Lead (Group Projects)

How has your career led you to teaching?

I am a Lecturer in the Hamlyn Centre, where my research focusses on developing new tools for clinical diagnostics. Throughout my career I have been supported by excellent teachers and mentors, both during my time at Imperial and before. As such, I have always wanted to contribute to supporting younger researchers in developing their own careers, and I enjoy doing that as part of my role as a lecturer.

What aspect of the course do you enjoy teaching the most?

I most enjoy helping the students to develop their lab research skills through supervision of both group and individual projects, and seeing them grow in confidence as they develop into competent and independent researchers.

What do you hope your students will go on to achieve on completion of this course?

Our students go on to diverse careers after completing the MRes, but I particularly hope that some students go on to work in research and development (in both academia and industry) to design and develop the medical devices of the future.

What is your favourite part about teaching at Imperial College London?

Teaching students from different scientific backgrounds and with different skills. Our students range from computer scientists to medical doctors, and it’s always a pleasure to teach them and to watch them learn not just from the course itself but also from interaction with one another.
