What course do you teach on and what is your role?

Mikael SodergrenModule Lead for MRes In Medical Robotics and Image Guided Intervention

How has your career led you to teaching?

Throughout my medical education I have been privileged to have some fantastic teachers and mentors and therefore recognise the incredible value to high quality teaching. I have enjoyed taking on more formal teaching roles as well as mentoring junior colleagues.

What aspect of the course do you enjoy teaching the most?

I enjoy the problem-solving sessions we have with the students where we can really explore creative solutions to the myriad of technological problems presented in modern surgery.

What do you hope your students will go on to achieve on completion of this course?

I hope they gain in inter-disciplinary skillset and perspective which will propel them through their future careers, whether that is academia, industry or clinical practice.

What is your favourite part about teaching at Imperial College London?

I am immensely proud to be part of a faculty of teachers who can inspire students through research carried out in our own department and teach on courses where a large amount of the content was established through research from our University. One of the great things about teaching at Imperial College is the diversity of the students we teach and how this leads to such productive interactions such as group projects year on year.
