Our approach is built around four areas of work:

01 — Community partners as leaders Community partners help shape our decisions, priorities and how iCARE data is used, including through their role on our Data Access Committee (DAC), which reviews and approves all research access to the ICHT tenancy.

02 — Trusted community relationships We build long-term relationships with local communities and organisations across North West London. 

03 — Understanding public perspectives We listen to patients and communities through surveys, conversations and workshops, helping shape how we communicate, work and use health data for research.

04 — Building capability We help iCARE staff, researchers, patients and the public build the skills and confidence to engage meaningfully in health data research.

Ongoing collaborations, partnerships and projects

PERC (Patient Experience Research Centre)

iCARE works with PERC to expand community engagement, while using training to build skills, knowledge and confidence in effective community partnership working.

The BRC-IF PPIE Working Group

iCARE members are part of the new BRC Informatics (BRC-IF) PPIE Working Group, established in 2026 to promote best practice and map local, regional and national PPIE activity, creating a shared resource.

City of Westminster

iCARE works with the Digital Inclusion Team in Westminster to help local communities understand and engage with digital technologies and AI.

Past projects, events and activities

Digital Inclusion Forum

On Tuesday 8th September 2026, iCARE contributed to the Westminster Digital Inclusion Forum, exploring how digital inclusion connects with digital tools, health data and AI.

Key themes included:

  • Data representation and preventing “data poverty”
  • Trust, privacy and transparency
  • Digital literacy and capability
  • Ensuring digital-first approaches remain digital-inclusive, not digital-only
PPIE Masterclass

On 14 July 2026, iCARE team members took part in the Public Involvement in Health-Related Research Masterclass, co-delivered by PERC and a public contributor.

The session explored the differences between co-production, public involvement, public engagement and participation, and their role within health research.

This strengthened iCARE’s knowledge, skills and confidence to support meaningful public involvement in health-related research.

Data and AI Training Resource

iCARE created a training resource to help people understand more about data and AI in healthcare.

Developed in collaboration with members of the public and supported by experts, the resource aims to build knowledge and confidence, helping people make informed choices about their data and how it is used in healthcare.
