Job summary

The Non-Destructive Evaluation Group wishes to appoint a Research Associate to conduct research into the improvement of the sensitivity of the ultrasonic inspection of large grained materials by using a monitoring approach.

 

The UK Centre for Research in Nondestructive Evaluation (RCNDE) is funded by government and industry and offers a range of research opportunities. The main office is located at Imperial College. All the projects of the Centre are motivated by real industrial needs, and the Centre helps to ensure that successful results from the projects are transferred to industrial use. The aim of this project is to improve the sensitivity and reliability of guided wave structural health monitoring. The project will require extensive liaison with industry.

Duties and responsibilities

The position will involve simulations and experiments on ultrasonic scattering from small defects in large grained materials.

Essential requirements

Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent, or near completion of PhD) in ultrasonic monitoring.   In addition substantial experience in dealing with scattering from large grained materials is essential.

 

Further information

This is a fixed term position for up to 12 months.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £33,380 - £35,061 per annum.
