Job summary

Applicants are invited to apply for a Research Associate (RA) position funded by the EPSRC to develop The Active Building Centre.  The ABC is one of two hubs funded through the Transforming Construction Industrial Challenge. ABC aims to: revolutionise the way the UK designs, constructs and operates buildings by realising the potential for the integration of advanced offsite manufacturing with state-of-the-art digital design. This will include the incorporation and integration of energy generation, storage, and release technologies to create Active Buildings which substantially reduce both the operational costs of buildings and their demand on the UK energy infrastructure


 

Duties and responsibilities

The RA will carry out research programmes in the areas of model predictive control of energy systems for buildings, infrastructure modelling and analytics, undertake project management and/or supervise multi-disciplinary teams.  In addition, the RA will be expected to participate in the general activities of the ABC, attend the project meetings and events, collaborate in project report preparation, submit publications to refereed journals and to attract external research funding.


 

Essential requirements

You must have a good PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Control Engineering, Applied Mathematics or equivalent for appointment at Research Associate level and have experience in model predictive control and numerical methods for optimization, ideally with an emphasis on monitoring and control of large-scale interconnected systems.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £35,477 - £38,566 per annum.
