Job summary

We are looking for a Research Associate who is interested in the broad area of storage technology. Our group focuses on data analytics and high impact interdisciplinary research, i.e., developing ground-breaking and novel data management techniques strongly motivated and used in other disciplines.

Duties and responsibilities

The particular project (http://www.oligoarchive.eu) the Research Associate is hired for will revolve around DNA storage and so the goal is to develop DNA encodings, i.e., how to map data to DNA while still enabling error free recovery. The background of successful candidates must overlap significantly with the following areas:

  • Data management
  • Data analytics
  • Data storage
  • DNA storage (basic knowledge of DNA is assumed)
  • Error detection and correction codes.

The successful candidate will be a member of our group which focuses on data analytics and high impact interdisciplinary research, i.e., developing ground breaking and novel data management techniques strongly motivated and used in other disciplines.

Responsibilities of the position includes:

  • Performing research on DNA storage
  • Working with Ph.D. students, help directing their research and help in disseminating results
  • Supporting teaching efforts
  • Supporting the acquisition of new research and industrial projects

Essential requirements

You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and prioritise work to meet deadlines. Proficiency in C/C++ and Python is required and must be demonstrated. Please note that only candidates with publications in the relevant areas are considered - others need not apply.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £36,045 - £39,183 per annum.
