Job summary
This post, funded by the Advance Study Charity to Imperial College London, is to conduct research on musculoskeletal health of the ADVANCE Study participants. The postholder will have access to an unrivalled wealth of rich data, including DEXA, x-rays, functional outcome, patient reported outcomes measures, and biomechanical data of the cohort of over 1100 participants as well as additional detailed data for a subgroup of amputee ADVANCE Study participants.
Duties and responsibilities
The ADVANCE Study is an innovative study and the first of its kind in a UK military casualty population. The ADVANCE study has been set up to evaluate the clinical, biological and psychosocial outcomes of a cohort of 500+ UK battlefield casualties and a control group of 500+ battlefield exposed non-injured participants. This 20-year cohort study will offer a uniquely comprehensive description of the long-term physical and psychosocial outcomes of blast and other battlefield trauma. Baseline data collection has been completed and within the period of this post, the first follow-up measures will have been completed, meaning that two sets of data for all >1100 participants will be available to the post holder to investigate the effects of major conflict trauma on musculoskeletal health
Essential requirements
The successful applicant will be expected to make infrequent visits to the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Stanford Hall, near Loughborough, the physical home of the ADVANCE Study.
