The Graduate Finance Trainee Scheme is a three-year programme designed to provide the candidates with extensive finance experience and the opportunity to gain a professional accountancy qualification. Duties and responsibilities

Graduate Finance Trainees can expect to gain both operational and project experience during their Traineeship. It is intended that during the course of the training scheme all trainees will develop the skills and experience necessary to apply for a permanent position at Imperial.

Trainees on the Financial accounting stream will be expected to complete their study for the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ACA) qualification during the three years.  The College will meet the full cost of relevant training courses, exam fees, etc. (assuming first time passes). A generous study leave package is provided.

Salaries will escalate throughout the three years via a combination of annual pay increments and pay increases linked to exam success.

Essential requirements


  • You must have the right to work in the UK for at least three years from the date of commencement of the Programme.

  • You should possess, or expect to achieve this year, a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in any discipline.

  • You should have a minimum of 128 UCAS points based on the new tariff.

  • You should also have obtained an undergraduate degree within the last three years (since the summer of 2019) or be due to graduate in summer 2022.

  • You should have an A level in Mathematics if your degree is not in a numerate subject (Grade B and above).

  • You should have grade 9 – 4 (A*- C) at GCSE level (or equivalent) in Maths and English.

Further information

The training component of our Graduate Finance Trainee Scheme is funded by the apprenticeship levy and is fully aligned to the level 7 Accountancy or Taxation Professional apprenticeship standard. Please note that applicants should have the right to work in the UK and an eligible residency status (please refer to Education and Skills Funding Agency rules, Annex A, for further information).

Once the application window has closed, applicants will be shortlisted and a small proportion of them will be invited for interview. We receive a very high number of applications every year, with around 200 applications for the last intake.

The starting salary will be £33,977 per annum. Salary progression will be dependent upon performance and exam success.
