The MRC Centre for Environment and Health is pleased to invite applications for its Early Career Fellowship Programme. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading research centres in the UK and internationally for multidisciplinary research and training on environment and health sciences.
We are seeking an ambitious, exceptional candidate with a PhD and experience in research on environment and health and with strong quantitative skills. The aim of these fellowships is to support the fellows to develop as competitive, independent researchers and to provide a platform to fulfil their long-term career goals.
You are required to produce a research proposal describing your plans to carry out a challenging and ambitious programme of research in the Environmental Exposures Theme. Proposals must be relevant to the Centre’s research scope and their focus should fall within at least one of the following key areas:
- Aerosol science
- Air pollution modelling
- Improved methods for air pollution epidemiology
- Exposure assessment
- Emerging environmental hazards, such as chemicals and microplastics
Multidisciplinary cross-Centre proposals are encouraged.
Duties and responsibilities
You will be responsible for the development of your independent research programme, establishing collaborations with other Centre staff and external partners where relevant, under the supervision of your chosen mentor. You will be expected to present your work at significant conferences and publish in high-quality international peer-reviewed journals and contribute to the preparation of research grants and Fellowship proposals.
You must have a PhD or equivalent awarded by the start date of the fellowship in one of the key areas listed above or related field of study.
You should have extensive experience and knowledge in at least one of the following disciplines: environmental or molecular epidemiology, computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, geographical information systems (GIS), small area health statistics, exposure sciences, mathematical sciences, environmental sciences.
Applications will be assessed on the quality of the research proposal, on the candidate’s standing as demonstrated by the extent to which they meet the personal criteria in the job description, and on their potential to develop an independent research career.
This is a full time, fixed term post for 24 months. Full salary costs are provided as well as appropriate research expenses. The salary range is fixed so applicants should ensure this meets their experience and expectations.
You will be based at Imperial College London in the Environmental Research Group.
You must select at least one primary mentor among the Environmental Exposures Theme members listed at https://environment-health.ac.uk/environmental-exposures/ Mentorship must be agreed with the potential mentor in order to submit a valid application.
