Would you like to work on innovative research that is making a real difference in the prevention and early diagnosis of cancer? An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Research Fellow to join the research activities of the Cancer Screening and Prevention Research Group (CSPRG, www.csprg.org.uk) based at the St Mary’s Campus of Imperial College London, located in Paddington.

You will work within an internationally renowned multidisciplinary group with a history of publishing high-impact papers and a portfolio of high-value grants from government and charity sources. You will undertake research into the prevention and early detection of colorectal cancer, the second-biggest cancer killer in the developed world, as well as other gastrointestinal malignancies of unmet need. You will join a friendly, highly motivated team. 

You will have a PhD in epidemiology or a closely related discipline and previous experience working in a role with similar responsibilities. You will have experience in study design and conduct, project management, supervising multi-disciplinary teams and leading a high-quality programme of research in the area of early detection and diagnosis of gastrointestinal cancers, particularly focused on diagnostic technologies. You will have a national and international reputation in this field of research and experience in leading the design of research programmes. You will support the translation of evidence into practice, establish further partnerships with the NHS and policy making bodies, and improve the impact of CSPRG in reducing the numbers of people being diagnosed with and dying from cancer. You would run your own research portfolio of trials and observational studies, developing further research related to key priorities for the Department of Surgery & Cancer, the Faculty of Medicine and the wider College. 

All members of academic staff are expected to be active in research, publishing papers in leading journals, attending conferences, supervising early career academics and acquiring funding to support research activities. You will be expected to have a proven track record in such activities. 

This post will involve the usual administrative duties associated with a lively academic and research active environment and the appointee will be expected to improve the academic standing of the Department of Surgery and Cancer.
