The ‘ADVANCE’ (ArmeD SerVices TrAuma RehabilitatioN OutComE) Study is a large, complex and fully funded, prospective cohort study of the long-term medical and psychosocial outcomes of UK Servicemen who were seriously injured in the conflict in Afghanistan. Approximately 600 seriously injured men and an equal number of reference personnel have been recruited and will be followed regularly for at least 20 years. ADVANCE is run jointly by Imperial College, London, Kings College London and the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) at Stanford Hall, Leicestershire.

We are looking for a committed and inspired individual to join the ADVANCE research team.  This post is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in database management who wants to use their skills to make a difference.

You will be working in an integrated, multi-disciplinary team and will primarily be responsible for: coordinating and further developing the ADVANCE databases to facilitate the smooth running of clinical data collection as well as the analysis of study participant data for the research teams; ensuring adequate and ongoing checks on data quality; organising the safe storage of data in a manner making it accessible to each partner organisation; supporting the development of electronic tools for the next rounds of data collection; and arranging the appropriate supply of data when requested.

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Contributing to data management and related issues together with the rest of the data management team
  • Working with the Senior Data Manager in planning and prioritising work activities across project sites
  • Providing guidance to the project team on the development and implementation of strategies for coordination of study data across multiple platforms
  • Identifying and developing suitable techniques and apparatus for electronic data collection, validation and storage
  • Preparation, processing, cleaning, loading and checking study data
  • Working independently to produce updates/progress reports to the team, project board and external stakeholders, as requested

Essential requirements


  • Degree in information technology or related subject

  • Experience in project database management

  • Experience in design and set-up of data files, including documentation

  • Experience in data linkage across different datasets

  • Knowledge of principles of electronic database design and management

  • Knowledge of principles of ethical standards in data management and confidentiality, including GDPR and DPA

  • Familiarity with SQL or similar

  • Advanced database skills

  • Ability to use electronic survey tools

  • Good communication and organisational skills

Further information

This is a Full time and Fixed term position for 18 months based at Royal Brompton Campus. Job share will be considered.

Please note occasional travel to Stanford Hall, Loughborough will be required.
