Job summary

We are seeking a talented molecular cell biologist to join a drug discovery and development team in the group of Professor Ed Tate, sponsored by Myricx Pharma Ltd, a drug discovery spinout founded by Imperial College and the Francis Crick Institute.

The position is available full time from January 2020 (or as soon as possible thereafter), for 12 months in the first instance with the potential for extension subject to progress. Applications from candidates with prior biotech/pharma industry experience, or with an interest in joining this sector, are strongly encouraged.

Duties and responsibilities

Currently undisclosed data obtained have revealed exciting and previously unappreciated druggable vulnerabilities in a post-translational modification pathway in a wide range of currently untreatable cancers. We have established proprietary lead molecules targeting this pathway with unprecedented selectivity and potency, and you will work with scientists in the Tate group and with Myricx on the preclinical development of these molecules as novel oncology drugs.

Your research will focus on a novel drug target and biomarkers in specific pathways, working in cell models (patient-derived cell lines, co-culture and 3D culture) and advanced animal models of disease, in collaboration with Myricx and experienced contract research organisations (CROs). You will join the Tate group at the state-of-the art £170M Molecular Sciences Research Hub at Imperial’s new White City Campus.

Essential requirements

Essential criteria for the role are as follows:

  • A Masters level qualification in molecular cell biology or a closely related field, or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience
  • Experience in cell culture and phenotypic/pathway analysis techniques (e.g. microscopy, cytometry, RNA-seq analysis)
  • Ability to set and attain research objectives as part of a multidisciplinary team

Training can be provided in required techniques, but prior experience in at least one of the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Multidisciplinary drug discovery
  • Molecular pharmacology
  • Cancer cell biology and hypothesis-driven drug target validation/analysis
