The Pure Mathematics Section in the Department of Mathematics is seeking applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position in the field of Number Theory starting 1 October 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter. Further information can be found in the Departmental website.

Duties and responsibilities

You will work in an area of Number Theory. They will undertake a self-directed program of research and scholarship at a level commensurate with the current standards of excellence in the Department of Mathematics and Imperial College. The role will involve lecturing undergraduate and post-graduate courses, supervising PhD students, and managing staff such as Research Associates. The successful candidate will promote the reputation of the Department, and the College, through scientific meetings and other activities.

Essential requirements

The essential requirements for these posts are as follows:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in Mathematics or a closely related discipline
  • The appointee will be able to demonstrate their ability to produce independent research and will have developed the skills to take a more active role in teaching and supervision.
  • Research interests in an area of Number Theory
  • The ability to conduct a personal research programme at the highest level
  • An excellent record of research, evidenced by a portfolio of research publications commensurate with career stage
  • Experience, or clear potential, of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level across a range of subjects in Pure Mathematics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, particularly with researchers in non-mathematical disciplines
  • Ability to interact effectively with the broad range of research expertise in the Department of Mathematics, bringing together mathematical links to develop an exemplary research programme.
