- Will the MSc in Petroleum Geoscience start on time in October 2020?
All MSc courses based in Earth Science & Engineering will start in October 2020 at the start of the new academic year.
- If COVID-19 distancing measures are still in place will the course be taught remotely? Will the start of the academic year be delayed
If distancing measures are still in place it is planned that the MSc courses in Earth Science & Engineering will be taught remotely.
If there are distancing measures in place that prevent individuals attending Imperial in person then our intention is to allow those students to attend lectures remotely until they can attend in person.
MSc courses in Earth Science & Engineering do not envisage a delayed start to the academic year at this current time.
- If the course is taught remotely would this be for the whole academic year or part of the year?
If distancing measures are still in place it is planned that the MSc courses in Earth Science & Engineering will be taught remotely. We are/will be following the advice of the college & government and any changes in our teaching plans will be communicated to students at the earliest possibility.
- If the course is taught remotely would there be a change in the cost of the fees for October 2020?
MSc course fees at this current time have not been changed. However any changes to the fee will be communicated to students as soon possible.
- I feel hesitant to accept my offer because I am not sure if the program will commence on time?
All MSc programs in Earth Science & Engineering will commence on time in October. I would encourage you to accept your offer of a place to secure a position on our competitive courses and to allow you the necessary time to meet your admissions conditions before the start of the academic year.
- Many visa centres are closed across the world how should I prepare for the start of session given that I may not be able to gain a visa to attend in October?
MSc programs in Earth Science & Engineering will start on time in October 2020. Where there are delays in obtaining your visa, the College will assess your situation on a case by case basis.
- English Language requirements & Pre-sessional English courses?
The college is aware that it is currently difficult to arrange English language testing and therefore will accept in addition to standard qualifications the Duolingo English Test, LanguageCert International ESOL Tests, At Home Testing' TOEFL, IELTS indicator test for entry in October 2020. The college will also be offering some pre-sessional courses which will be delivered remotely this summer the Centre is offering 2 courses, 6 weeks (assessed) and 3 weeks (non-assessed). The start dates are 13th July for the 6-week and 2nd September for the 3-week courses.
- I have accepted an offer of a place on the MSc in Petroleum Geoscience, fieldtrips are part of this programme – if travel restrictions continue to be in place after October 2020, how will this learning experience be arranged?
We are planning to deliver remote fieldtrips that meet the essential learning outcomes, as we have recently done for the 2019-20 Petroleum Geoscience MSc class’s synthesis fieldtrip to the Spanish Pyrenees.
