Person holds globe under their armAs an undergraduate in the Department of Earth Science and Engineering at Imperial College London, you’ll have opportunities to develop your interest and skills in languages, humanities, business and music too.

Geoscience is a global subject and we support all students to improve their overall understanding of the world.

The Imperial Horizons programme allows students to enrol on modules within three subject areas:

  • sustainable human development,
  • humanities & social sciences and
  • languages.

This programme is optional and runs co-curricular where you will learn alongside students from other Departments and Faculties over the span of 8-10 weeks.

In Year 3, you will take an I-Explore module as part of your degree programme – a for-credit module outside of your discipline.  I-Explore modules are offered in 4 different areas:

  • Imperial Horizons (mentioned above)
  • Business for Professionals of Science & Engineering – delivered by Imperial College Business School, these modules give you the chance to gain a greater understanding of the financial, strategic and operational context of your core discipline
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine (STEMM) – modules taken outside of your chosen discipline, which include topical areas of science being pioneered by our researchers that are not currently offered within our undergraduate programmes
  • Multidisciplinary Project – an opportunity to work with a team of students from other Departments aiming to tackle societies biggest challenges
It’s awesome to be able to study at the Royal College of Music as well."

If you play a musical instrument the College offers five Ash Music Scholarships each year, with a chance to study at the Royal College of Music where you will enjoy free tuition.  If you are unsuccessful in gaining a scholarship, you can still make use of the practice rooms and grand pianos at the Blyth Music Centre located on the South Kensington campus.
