The modular model and simulation for the 410 t/h circulating fluidized bed boiler

, Proceedings of the CSEE, Vol: 19, Pages: 31-36

Applying the concepts of modular modeling, a general mathematical model of a CFB boiler, taking the 410 t/h Neijiang Pyroflow type CFB boiler as the object, is established. For the employing of current cell model of the furnace, the model includes gas/solid fluidization, combustion of coal particles with wide size distribution NOx formation and reduction, SO2 retention, and heat transfer. The core-annual hydrodynamics model is applied to estimate the influence recirculation. After comparing with the real site dynamic record data it can be shown that the mathematical model and simulation software package can affect the dynamic processes of this CFBC system, and that it has some practical value (3 refs.)

Pulsed Optical Emission from PSR 0656+14

, Astrophysical Journal Letters, Vol: 487

Using data collected with the Special Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) 6 m telescope and the University College Galway (UCG) Transputer Instrument for Fast Image Deconvolution (TRIFFID) imaging photometer, we show that the radio, X-ray, and gamma -ray pulsar PSR 0656+14 exhibits pulsed optical emission. We observed that the pulsed fraction was consistent with 100% and that the flux was higher than that expected from a thermal source. The magnitude of PSR 0656+14 in the B band was observed to be 25.1 +/- 0.3, consistent with previous CCD observations. The peak of the optical signal is at phase 0.2 compared to the radio and in phase with the weak gamma -ray pulse.

Loss of particulate contaminants from plant canopies under wet and dry conditions.

    , Environ Pollut, Vol: 91, Pages: 227-235, ISSN: 0269-7491

There is a requirement for data describing the loss with time of particulate contamination from plant canopies. Measurements were made of the loss rates of monodispersed silica spheres (three sizes, with Mass Median Aerodynamic Diameters (MMADs) 1.9, 5.3 and 8.4 microm) from wheat (Triticum aestivum) and broad bean (Vicia faba) canopies. The spheres were labelled with tracers detectable by Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA). Canopies were contaminated under realistic turbulence conditions in a wind tunnel, then removed to sheltered and exposed field sites or to a glasshouse containing a rain simulator. Samples were taken periodically, and the level of contamination per plant determined by INAA. Statistical analysis of the resulting data suggested an offset exponential loss model, with a residue of deposit that is not lost over time. Loss half-lives in the order of 1-2 days were obtained for an exposed wheat crop and 3-4 days for a partially sheltered wheat crop, with permanent residues of initial deposit for the exposed crop of 4-8%, and for the partially sheltered crop of 22-52%. A broad bean crop under glasshouse conditions showed loss half-lives of 0.5-1.5 days with residues of 22-26% initial contamination. A double exponential loss model also fitted the data well in some cases, and it is possible that a slow loss of the residual deposit occurs, being masked by noise in the current data set.
