Special examination arrangements are adjustments that can be made to procedures to enable examinations to be made more accessible for students with disabilities or specific learning difficulties. Some examples of the types of adjustment that can commonly be made are: extra time, rest breaks, the use of a computer or assistive technology, a reader and/ or amanuensis (scribe).

Please note that bringing any form of medication into the examination room requires prior approval and is treated as a special examination arrangement. The same applies to bringing food or drink other than water - approval must be obtained in advance through the usual process for examination arrangements.

Special examination arrangements must be applied for on your behalf by the departmental Disabilities Officer Emma Rainbow.  They can only be put in place if they are supported by evidence of need, either from your doctor (in the case of medical conditions) or your diagnostic assessor (specific learning difficulties). It is advisable to inform us of your needs as soon as possible as we need to make applications to the university at least six weeks prior to your first examination. First, second and fourth years should request special examination arrangements by 1 March, third years should do this by 1 November.
