Undergraduates from their second year have an opportunity to work as Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (UTAs) or Peer Tutors in the Department.

UTAs

UTAs can assist module leaders in teaching first- and second-year modules with the following assignments:

  • Lab demonstration
  • Lecture support – particularly for modules with a heavy coursework element
  • Providing feedback (not marks) to students following tests so students understand how and why they missed marks
  • Answering queries on Ed

If you are interested in working as a UTA, please look at the current vacancies.

Peer Tutors

Peer tutors provide support to first- and second-year students who are struggling with a module. Students can have one-off or regular tutorials with a student in a higher year.

How to apply

To apply to become a UTA you need to check the UTA vacancies and ensure you are eligible. If you fit the criteria listed above, reach out to the module leader in an email expressing your interest in the role.

If the module leader appoints you as a UTA,  you will need to complete and return a UTA Appendix setting out the role you are being appointed to to the departmental EEE Casual Worker Support team. You are required to complete one Appendix document per type of assignment. Please note that the module leader must sign the Appendix document.

Once you have been contacted by the central Casual Worker team for a Right to Work check and registration process and have the agreement for UTA work in place, the Appendix document is the only document that you need to provide to the Department.

If you have any queries about the registration requirements, please contact the EEE Casual Worker Support team directly. The central Casual Worker team will also be your point of contact for any queries relating to payment or changes to your personal details.

*Please remember you are required to complete your registration in full, before you can start working as a casual worker on an assignment.
