Most non-EEA nationals who require immigration permission to be in the UK and intend to study on one of these courses and will be required to apply  for ATAS clearance before applying for a Student Route visa.

PLEASE NOTE that an ATAS certificate is only valid for 6 months from the date of issue. You must make sure that you submit your visa application before the ATAS expires!

You should apply for ATAS clearance well in advance (at least one month) of your student visa application as the processing time for ATAS can be as long as 20 working days.

NB: In addition to the above, during the months of July, August and September, ATAS is extremely busy and so the processing time for ATAS applications can be as long as 30 working days.

CAH3 course code is CAH10-01-08

PhD students will also need to enter some information about their proposed area of research as part of ATAS application. This should be about 6-7 lines in length and agreed with your supervisor in writing (by email is fine). August is the main holiday month in the UK so if you are due to start in October we recommend that you contact your supervisor for the research statement before end July. Please see FCO examples of proposed research‌ with examples of good and bad statements of proposed research.

Research statements written in the first person (e.g., I, my) are not accepted.
