DataLearning Postdoctoral Researchers
-
Andrew Clelland
Affiliations
Andrew is a postdoctoral researcher within the Data Learning Group and the Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires, Environment and Society. During his PhD he made machine learning forecasts of future wildfire occurrence in the Arctic-boreal zone under different climate change scenarios. Andrew now uses machine learning and AI to integrate satellite imagery with “human sensor” information from social media to improve real-time forecasting of wildfires.

Sina Mehrdad
Affiliations
Sina is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Data Learning and AI4Good Group and the Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires. His PhD research focused on extracting physical insights from complex climate systems using advanced machine learning methods. His current work applies multimodal AI techniques to extract wildfire-related information—such as fire location and intensity—from social media data and to integrate these insights into fire forecasting models, with the aim of improving real-time wildfire prediction.
