Undergraduate Research Opportunities are research opportunities available to students to participate in real research and be able to appreciate the environment in which it takes place. Students from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering can only participate in UROPS if they have funding. UROPS are not available to final year students.
Funding
Near the start of the Spring term, funding opportunities are advertised at College level. To apply you have to have confirmed a supervisor and project.
If you find that you are unsuccessful with funding for a project with an EEE Academic (We do not fund projects in other departments) then the Director of EEE will consider who we can fund, with 50% support from the supervisor. The departmental funding available is limited.
To find out more about UROPS view the College pages.
If you do not get any funding, then you are able to still work on a more casual basis with the academic concerned. You cannot register this as a UROP with college.
Module leaders will consider providing Undergraduate Teaching Opportunities (UTOPS) when they require help developing a part of the module.
The academic will apply to the Department for funding with their proposal. Once approved, they will recruit undergraduates for the posts.
The posts are paid. If it is completed remotely then the pay will be 50% of the UROP/UTOP rate (2025 £407 a week).
International Research Opportunities Programme (IROP) offers students an exciting chance to spend 8 weeks at one of Imperial’s partner Universities. This is an exciting opportunity to broaden your perspective, gain new experiences and develop your skills.
We will be setting up a new partnership for 2025 - 2026, more information to come.
