We consider all applicants on an individual basis, welcoming students from all over the world.
While academic grades are important, it's not the only factor that we take into account during selection, so even if you meet all of our academic requirements that does not automatically guarantee admission.
We also consider other factors such as suitability for the course and your proficiency in English.
Your academic references are also important and form part of our assessment.
Applying
If you are studying at a UK university
we require first-class honours in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related subject with a substantial Electrical/Electronic Engineering component.
If you are studying overseas
If you studied outside the UK, you need a degree that is the same level as a UK first-class honours. You can check how international grades compare to UK grades in our qualification guidance. The grades shown in the guidance for equivalent to a UK Upper Second Class degree (2.1). To meet our requirement of First class equivalence, you will need slightly higher grades.
If you are studying at a Chinese university
We can only consider applications from students at Project 211 universities, with an expected final overall mark of at least 87.5%.
If you are studying on a joint China-UK programme
- you must achieve a minimum of 85 in the Chinese system, and
- be predicted First class marks from your UK university
A typical offer will be for a First class degree from your UK university.
English language
You will also need to meet Imperial College's Higher English language requirement.
You do not need to have met the English language requirement when you make your application.
We operate a staged admissions process with several application rounds throughout the year.
Apply by 23:59 (UK time) on the closing date of an application round and you will recieve a response on your application by the relevant decision date. We do not normally make decisions until the closing date of a round.
We recommend applying as early as you can - we cannot guarantee that places will be available, or course remain open, in later rounds.

If you applied in the previous year and your application was not successful you may apply again. In your new application you should demonstrate how your application has improved by additional education, research and/or relevant work experience.
You can submit one application form per year of entry. You can choose up to two courses.
You should list your preferred course as your first choice and your reserve course as your second choice as we will consider your application for courses in the order they are submitted.
You will only be considered for your second choice if your first-choice application is unsuccessful.
