Our research aims to establish mechanistic, quantitative, understanding of defect nucleation and growth processes in metals and ceramics in order to inform structural integrity assessment at engineering component level.

The research includes in-situ fracture studies at micron-scale Microbeam Laue to measure stresses deformation initiation, age-hardenable nitrides for cutting tools (publications),  and fatigue crack nucleation and microstructurally-sensitive growth in single and polycrystal metal alloys,  particularly for aero-engine and energy applications (publications).
