Walter Burrough, a first year Chemist, joined nine other undergraduates from six different universities, in an expedition to the Svalbard Archipelago in the Arctic Circle. The group carried out a number of scientific projects in geology, geomorphology, and plant ecology, but also undertook a programme of demanding climbing and difficult-terrain skiing.
