An Imperial student and his younger brother planned to cycle from Bergen in Norway to Rome, the capital of Italy, over a period of nearly two months, commencing mid-July. They were joined by two other cyclists for parts of the journey. The brothers planned to experience some of the culture of the countries they passed through by visiting museums and places of interest.

The first stage to Kristiansand enabled them to see Preikeistolen, the highest cliff in Europe. During the following stage to Gothenburg in Sweden, the pair passed several castles and visited some museums, before moving on to Copenhagen. In Germany, they passed through Hamburg before stopping in Berlin, where they again spent time in museums dedicated to the Second World War and the Cold War period. Unfortunately their bikes were stolen at this point, and they were compelled to purchase second hand bikes for 50 Euros each, which they felt would be sturdy enough to get them to their destination. They then journeyed to Prague in the Czech Republic and onto Krakow in Poland.

Having crossed the Tatras Mountains into Slovakia they then headed to Vienna in Austria. Passing briefly through Slovenia, the pair made their way to Zagreb the Croatian capital and then onto Bosnia, before heading towards Italy and towards their final destination, Rome, where they enjoyed some of the famous sights.
