This expedition entailed a 25-day self-supported bikepacking journey around Nepal’s Annapurna Circuit, undertaken during April and May 2025. The expedition aimed to complete the full circuit without motorised transport, assess the impact of road development on local communities and tourism, and explore the region’s cultural and environmental transformation.

Starting in Pokhara, the team of two cycled through diverse terrain, ascending to the 5,416m Thorong La Pass. The route spanned 400km with 12,400m of elevation gain, traversing subtropical valleys, alpine passes, and remote villages. The journey highlighted the growing influence of infrastructure—particularly roads and hydroelectric projects—on the region’s traditional trekking culture. While these developments have improved access and economic opportunities, they have also led to environmental degradation, reduced foot traffic in lower villages, and altered the circuit’s remote character. Accommodation was primarily in teahouses, and food was locally sourced.

Throughout the trip, the team engaged with local people, observed wildlife, and documented the changing landscape. Despite challenges such as altitude fatigue, rough terrain, and unpredictable weather, the expedition was completed successfully.

In addition to funding provided by the Exploration Board this expedition was supported by the Old Centralians' Trust.
