- Heat-related urban mortality attributable to human-induced climate change in Europe in summer 2026 [PDF]
Summary
Summer 2026 was characterised by a succession of extreme heatwaves with severe impacts recorded on public health.
Researchers from Imperial and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine analysed expected heat mortality in 854 urban areas across 30 countries (EU-27, UK, Switzerland and Norway) during June-August 2026.
Accepted for publication in the journal Nature Health, the paper builds on the team's work comparing the summers of 2000-2025.
