(1) Engineering Alloys
(2) Ceramics and glasses
(3) Nanomaterials
(4) Functional Materials
(5) Materials for Quantum Technologies

You will join a friendly, dynamic, world-leading Materials department that enjoys an ethos of collaboration.  While the posts are distinct, you may have expertise in several themes. You will also be encouraged to interact with scientists and engineers from other departments across Imperial and have a strong track record and interest in developing external collaborations both nationally (particularly in connection with the Faraday Institution, the Royce Institute, the London Centre for Nanotechnology, and National Labs and Facilities) and internationally.

Centre for Quantum Engineering, Science and Technology (QuEST)

QuEST is an established cross-disciplinary centre of Excellence and was formally adopted as one of the key College strategies in 2022. It provides an umbrella for activities in a range of disciplines related to quantum technologies, spanning novel computing approaches to the development of new materials.  It involves a community including materials, physics, chemistry, computing and other engineering disciplines.  The importance of materials in quantum technologies is particularly highlighted through its explicit mention as one of the three themes in the strategy, and the department’s leadership of the UK-wide Materials for Quantum Technologies Network (M4QN).

  • To manage research projects.
  • To teach and examine courses at all levels – undergraduate, masters and higher research degrees – through lectures, seminars, tutorials, laboratory classes, course work and personal supervision.
To plan and review own approach to teaching.
  • To take a leading role in, or contribute to, the development of teaching and teaching methods and assessment.
  • To participate in the business planning and objective setting process for the academic team and the Department.
  • To make a significant contribution to building and establishing links between the appropriate departments and colleagues in other parts of Faculty and wider College
  • To demonstrate excellent leadership skills with regard to individual performance, academic teams, the department, Faculty, College, and when participating in national/international initiatives.
