What you need to do
There are different ways to pay your tuition fees depending on how your studies are being funded.
Pay your student fees online
You can pay your student fees online using either of Imperial's payment platforms, Convera or Flywire. Both offer a range of UK and international payment options, including bank transfer and debit or credit card payments.
Pay by loan from the UK government
Undergraduate students
If you are a home student, you will be able to specify whether you have applied or intend to apply for a Tuition Fee Loan from the Student Loans Company (SLC), or an NHS Bursary for MBBS/BSc Medicine students when you register at Imperial online.
If you are receiving tuition fee support from the SLC or NHS, this will be paid directly to Imperial and you will not receive a fee invoice.
It is important to apply for a Tuition Fee Loan every summer before the start of the academic term. Failure to do so may result in you becoming liable for the full tuition fee.
Postgraduate students
Home students can apply for help from the UK government, via the Student Loans Company (SLC) towards their tuition fees.
If you receive a Master's or Doctoral loan from the UK government, it will be paid directly to you via the Student Loans Company. It may be used towards your tuition fees or in support of maintenance costs.
As this loan is paid directly to you, we do not regard it as sponsorship. You should therefore declare that you are self-funding when you register.
You may also have the option to pay your fee in instalments – this does not apply to students receiving Postgraduate loans via the Student Awards Agency for Scotland.
Further information is available from the Student Lending team.
Pay via sponsorship
Until your sponsorship award has been formally confirmed by your sponsoring organisation and accepted by Imperial, your tuition fees will remain your financial responsibility.
Once your sponsorship has been accepted, any fee amount not covered by your sponsor is your responsibility and must be paid by the applicable tuition payment deadline to avoid late fees.
Find more information about submitting your sponsorship information.
When to do it
You will normally receive your tuition fee invoice within five working days of completing the final condition of your offer and having your place confirmed.
Undergraduate students: Pay by 1 September or within 30 days of receiving your invoice, whichever is later.
Postgraduate students: Pay on the first day of the month closest to one month before your course starts, or within 30 days of receiving your invoice, whichever is later.
Expected processing times
Once your payment reaches us, it typically takes 1–2 working days to process. This does not include the time it takes for your payment to reach Imperial, which can be up to five working days for some payment methods.
More information and who to contact
Visit our undergraduate or postgraduate fees and funding pages for more information about tuition fees, payment methods, student loans and sponsorship.
If you have questions about your tuition fee invoice or payments, please contact the Student Fees team.

If you are a Student Visa holder and are having issues enrolling, it is probably due to a visa hold. Please go to My Imperial and upload your passport under the My Passport, Visa, and CAS tile.

When to do it
Online enrolment opens 30 days before the start date of your course. We encourage you to enrol as soon as enrolment opens through My Imperial.

Additional steps for international students
What you need to do
You can view your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) statement in the My Passport, Visa and CAS tile in My Imperial.
Your CAS statement includes your course details, information about any tuition fees you have paid, and the documents used to assess your eligibility for study. Check these details carefully and contact the Admissions team if you notice an error.
You don’t need to submit your CAS statement with your visa application. However, you’ll need the information on your statement and the CAS number to apply for your visa.
When to do it
Check your CAS statement as soon as it has been produced and is available to view in My Imperial.
More information and who to contact
Find more information on our Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) webpage.
If you notice an error in your CAS statement, please contact the Admissions team.
If we’ve assigned you a CAS but you don’t need a student visa, because you have other immigration permission that allows you to study, please notify the Admissions team and ask for your CAS to be withdrawn.
What you need to do
You will need to apply via the Student Visa Route unless you:
- hold a full British passport
- hold settled or pre-settled status (EU/EEA/Swiss nationals)
- already have a different type of visa that allows you to study for the full length of your course
Whether you are applying from within the UK or overseas, please read our detailed guidance on applying for a student visa before preparing and submitting your application.
Imperial’s International Student Support (ISS) team can also help with your application.
If your visa application is refused, contact the International Student Support team as soon as possible and include a copy of your visa refusal notice.
Your eVisa
Once your visa is granted, you’ll be given information by the UK Visas and Immigration department (UKVI) on how to create a UKVI account and how to view your eVisa. You’ll only receive digital immigration permission and no Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) will be produced.
When to do it
Applying from overseas
You cannot make a visa application more than six months before your course start date.
Your CAS will only be prepared once you have met all the conditions of your offer and provided a copy of your passport ID page. The Admissions team will not start processing your CAS more than five months before your course start date.
Applying from within the UK
The earliest you can apply is three months before your course start date, as stated on your CAS.
Expected processing times
Visa applications made from overseas generally take around three weeks, but processing times can vary. We recommend checking the visa processing time in your country.
Applications made from within the UK generally take up to eight weeks.
More information and who to contact
Please read our visas and immigration guidance carefully before preparing and submitting your application.
If you’ve got any questions about your application process, please contact our Immigration Advisers in the International Student Support Team before submitting your application.
What you need to do
Once your visa has been granted, you’ll receive information from UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) on how to create a UKVI account and how to view your eVisa.
Imperial is required to check that international students have the correct UK immigration permission before they can study.
To allow Imperial to verify your immigration status, you must:
- Generate a UKVI share code for your digital immigration status. Select the purpose as “Other / something else”. Do not choose “work” or “rent”.
- Enter the share code details in the My Visa section of My Imperial.
Expected processing times
Imperial staff will check and verify your immigration permission. This process may take longer during busy periods.
More information and who to contact
Please refer to the guide to enrolling as an international student for full information.
What you need to do
Once your immigration permission has been verified, you will need to provide evidence of your date of entry to the UK via an online form (the link to the online form will go live in mid-August).
You must be logged into your Imperial email address to complete the form.
If you applied for your visa overseas
You must provide one of the following:
- passport entry stamp
- boarding pass
- flight ticket or booking confirmation
If you are travelling to the UK on a student visa, you must arrive on or after the start date of your visa, as shown on your eVisa. If you arrive before this date, you will enter the UK as a visitor and will not activate your student visa.
Keep your boarding pass or travel ticket as evidence of your date of entry to the UK, including if you use an ePassport gate (eGate).
If you applied for your visa within the UK
You must provide one of the following:
- decision letter from UKVI which confirms you have "permission to stay" (if your application has been decided)
- your visa application form (if your application decision is still pending).
This step is mandatory and forms part of your Full Right to Study check.
In-person compliance check (Student Visa holders only)
Once you have provided the requested evidence, you will be invited to book an in-person appointment during the first two weeks of your course.
It is essential that you book and attend one of these appointments. You will need to bring with you:
- your passport
- evidence of your date of entry to the UK (where required)
