The evolving role of science, academia and research in the CBD: from evidence to policy
19 October, 13.30-15.00, Auditorium (Action Zone) - Blue Zone
Delegate speaking: Audrey Wagner
Event organiser: Academia and Research Organisations group
Join us to explore how evidence informs the CBD through formal and informal pathways, how researchers can contribute to and influence policy, and how the role of science has evolved from understanding biodiversity loss to informing implementation and monitoring.
Closing the verification gap: measuring biodiversity recovery under Target 2, with evidence from the Brazilian Amazon
21 October, 15.00-16.30, A&R Hub - Blue Zone
Delegate speaking: Rhys Preston-Allen
Event organiser: Imperial College London
Restoration targets and biodiversity credit markets both rely on proving that biodiversity is recovering, yet recovery is usually inferred from tree cover. This talk proposes measuring whole communities against paired degraded and reference sites, tested with acoustic and camera-trap monitoring across large-scale restoration in the Brazilian Amazon.
Centering equity in ecosystem-based adaptation: operationalising Section C and Targets 8 and 11 of the KMGBF
22 October, 14.00-15.30, A&R Hub - Blue Zone
Delegate speaking: Audrey Wagner
Event organiser: IUCN, Imperial College London
The event will examine how select equity considerations in Section C of the KMGBF, together with the operative provisions of Targets 21-23, can be operationalised through national systems in order to deliver Targets 8 and 11 more equitably through Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA).
"Looking forward, not just back: a conversation on scenarios and models for the Global Biodiversity Framework"
23 October, 11.30-13.00, A&R Hub - Blue Zone
Delegate speaking: Rhys Preston-Allen
Event organiser: Imperial College London, UKCEH, NHM, University of Potsdam
The Global Biodiversity Framework tracks progress retrospectively, yet its 2030 and 2050 goals demand foresight. UKCEH and University of Potsdam researchers share UK policy case studies using biodiversity scenarios and models, progress on model intercomparison and a proposed World Biodiversity Research Programme, then open discussion. Hosted by Imperial’s Rhys Preston-Allen.
Are trade-offs inevitable? Navigating the politics of trade-offs in biodiversity and climate decision-making
24 October, 12.00-13.30, A&R Hub - Blue Zone
Delegates speaking: Gail Sucharitakul and Audrey Wagner
Event organiser: University of Bonn, IUCN, Imperial College London, SINTEF Ocean

26 October, 14.00-15.30, A&R Hub - Blue Zone
Delegate speaking: Gail Sucharitakul
Event organiser: Forest Sync, Imperial College London
