Our full-time, one-year MSc degree is specifically designed for graduates who are looking for advanced training in the field of chemical engineering and who wish to enhance their career prospects in multiple industry sectors, including energy, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, process and manufacturing industries. The degree presents a unique opportunity to be learn from world-leading academics and be involved in state-of-the-art research addressing the world’s most pressing issues: from advancing low-carbon energy technology to enabling a zero-pollution economy, and from accelerating vaccine manufacturing to developing innovative medical devices.

MSc programmes in Advanced Chemical Engineering

With our leading academics and research facilities, we can help you develop the skills and knowledge needed to reach the next stage of your career.  We offer four MSc programmes designed to give you the choice between developing a broad overview of the discipline or exploring one area of chemical engineering in more depth. These areas are Biotechnology, Process Systems Engineering and Materials Engineering.

The taught component of the course includes certain core modules and a wide range of optional modules to tailor your experience. Among the optional modules, there is a strong emphasis on sustainability (e.g., with modules on Sustainable Energy Technologies and Carbon Capture and Clean Fossil Fuels), and the development of advanced computational skills (e.g., with modules such as Machine Learning for Chemical Engineers and Advanced Process Operations).

The research project is undertaken in one of the Department’s research groups. We cater for experimentalists and computational researchers alike - offering research opportunities for both. Projects are offered in all research areas of the Department.

The academic curriculum is complemented with an array of personal and professional development courses offered by our Graduate school

Student Life

Our highly international community comprises around 110 talented master’s students each year. Students benefit from immediate interaction with like-minded peers, research and professional staff within the department and wider College. The department is committed to improving the student experience by going above and beyond professional and academic development, through a diverse range of extracurricular and social opportunities - from exchange trips to career sessions with engineering companies. When you graduate from the course you become part of a network of alumni who span the globe, working in all types of different fields and industries.
