MS Teams Meetings

You will have received an email invitation confirming your place in the course, and instruction to join via Microsoft Team Meetings. 

At least one day before the meeting 

  1. To join the meeting, you will need to have Google Chrome, Firefox or the Teams App installed on your computer. You can install the app using the link below: 

  1. Make sure you can log in to your College email and Microsoft Teams, using your username and password. If you are experiencing any problems with accessing MS Teams, please contact ICT for help ‐ https://www.imperial.ac.uk/admin‐services/ict/ 

  1. Have a webcam, headphones and a microphone you can plug in to your computer 

 At least 15 minutes before the meeting  

  1. Make sure you are logged in to the Teams app or site, before you click on Join Team Meeting link you received, so you don’t join as a Guest.1 

  1. Make sure you have headphones and a microphone ready to use and set up your joining preference for your headphones and microphone. Watch this video on how to do it, if you need a reminder. 

 During the meeting 

  1. Mute your microphone until you want to talk, as it helps with reducing the background noise 

  1. Use the chat to ask for help  

  1. Disable your webcam, so the session can run without lag  

  1. Do not record the meeting 

  1. Participation in a Graduate School course requires enrolment. Do not add anyone else to the meeting during or after it ends

I can’t join the meeting 

Please join the Team Meeting using the Team app, Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Please log in to the meeting with your Imperial email address and password.  

I can’t see the microphone and chat icons 

Please make sure you access the meeting by logging in to Teams with your Imperial email address and password.  

I can’t hear/speak 

Please check your microphone is unmuted. If this doesn't work go to: More Actions - Show device settings – and set up the correct microphone. 

The audio has an echo, distortion, or static

This might be a connection speed issue.  Please close apps/browser/tabs or windows that are putting burden on Internet connection or use a wired Ethernet connection, if possible. If it doesn’t work, please go to: More actions - Turn off incoming video. 

As a last option, please leave the meeting and then re-join. 

The video quality is poor
